I considered taking the day off to go throw a few flies into a new spot with a buddy of mine this morning. He just sends me this. And I am in conference call hell. Buying lottery tickets, stat

I was just debating posting about fly fishing and whether or not anyone else on Oppo does it. Random
I took the day off Friday to do just this. I'm still new to it, and can't fish a stream yet to save my life, but I'm really enjoying it.

been tying since I was 6 years old. I wrote a book about it when I was in 3rd grade. Practice alot and experiment is all I can say. Oh and own a pair of good waders! Fly fishing isnt about the fish at all. That is just a nice bonus!

That's awesome man! I assume someone in your family was into it? Unfortunately I don't think I have the patience to tie flies. I'm guessing the more I get into it, my wallet will give me a friendly reminder to try it.
Had I known that about the waders when I bought my $60 rubber ones. They pull hair something awful if you aren't covered up all the way.
I can totally see that. It keeps me busy which holds my attention longer than real fishing could.
Where's your favorite place you've fished?

My Uncle was super into it, and he got me started on it. I just loved the lure creation, the art of it all. I went fishing for salmon on the King river in Alaska once with him before he passed away. It will continue to be my favorite trip to do anything, ever.

It is amazing how much of an art form it is. A friend of mine ties and he makes some cool stuff.
That sounds awesome! I'm sorry to hear he passed, but its great you got have that experience. I'm sure it'll be hard to top that

I got into fly fishing last year with my girlfriend's dad and grandpa at the fishing club they belonged to. Her parents got me a decent fly combo for Christmas. Trout opened here on April 26th, and I've been out to some creeks with it, but haven't managed to hook into anything. It's a lot of fun, and very relaxing.

Ugh...I've been told all these great spots for the buggers and I'm with you, I haven't landed a thing (well a few sunfish and a perch but that's it). But yea lot of fun and relaxing, I agree
